With breast pumps, some parents like options they can carry around with them.

Luckily, I have the Medla so I will have both. For that, both of these units are great pumps that do their job without the annoying noise. Buying a breast pump can be confusing, but after knowing the pros, cons, and features, you stand a better chance of choosing the right product. I wouldn't stress so much about open vs closed system. To help you out, here is a side-by-side comparison of two of the most popular breast pumps - the Spectra S2 Plus and the Medela Pump In Style Advanced (PISA). Not sure if insurance companies cover that one, since I bought mine. I would prefer to have a closed system, option for battery power, the lighter weights are appealing but am not sure if these are actually the most important features ‍♀️ or any other pump recommendations/advice is welcome! I always felt like I was done pumping super fast and it was nice and quiet. The Pumping Mommy is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. This is helpful if you have to pump on the go so you’re not having to search for an outlet! I’m back to using my medela but my supply really suffered ☹️. It’s lightweight and comes with a rechargeable battery. Also, I got some adapters on amazon for cheap so that allow the use of all my Medela flanges and bottles that I already have from last time. Breastfeeding parents need all the help they can get to supply their babies with enough milk. The expression mode has a slower, stronger suction for maximum milk production once the milk is flowing. You can switch to expression mode once your milk starts to flow. Do you have a comfortable, discreet place to pump, or will you be pumping in a more crowded area (like the living room, the kitchen, or a not-so-private lactation room at work)? Apart from that, pumping helps ensure there’s a ready supply even when you’re away from your baby.

From the many brands she has interacted with, and they are many, believe me, she prefers products by Medela especially their Symphony options. Out of the three I like the Spectra the best, I pump faster, express more milk, and the light is game changing for night time pumping. You can sterilize the kit by placing the parts in boiling water. I actually used the Medela flange though and amazon sells a little adapter to the spectra so it was easy to clean as well. The noise is akin to a cat purring so it’s not really something that can potentially disturb anyone, especially your child. As a Certified Breastfeeding Counselor and mother of 4, I am so happy to help you on your breastfeeding journey! A battery option would be really nice, but I wonder if this has to do with the fact that it’s a stronger, hospital grade pump. It syncs with the MyMedela app to give you a personalized pumping experience including the ability to track your pumping sessions and how many ounces you pumped. As a previous poster mentioned I'd probably just get a second pump if you need one at home. It really gives moms that ability to tailor their pump to their body and needs.

Charging it the first time will take about eight hours. Thanks for the post! They give you some easy cheat sheets to help you get started and know what to do first. Included battery adapter means that moms can pump anywhere without worrying about finding a place to plug in. So that will hopefully solve the one piece flange issue and make using the hands free pumping bra easier. It has a sleek touchscreen with feather-light touch activated buttons (you seriously just need to graze the button and it works). Anyone have feedback on these 2 models?

This is a very, very strong pump and one that Medela boasted about as featuring the performance of their standout, hospital grade pump, the Medela Symphony. A complete extra set of the parts will run you somewhere under $50 so not too bad for a duplicate of all the parts. Having a breast pump with accessories that are easy to clean means your child’s milk is always safe to drink. The cost issue of the pumps isn’t a problem.

spectra s2 vs medela sonata

Great comparison! That’s where breast pumps come in handy.

Medela Vs Spectra Breast Pumps. Thank you for supporting The Pumping Mommy!).

One feature that I wish the Sonata had was a memory mode or ability to save your preferred pump settings. I do love it though and mostly succeed in emptying at 70/4 for 30 minutes. This is a great way for moms trying to tell if they are pumping enough for their baby at a quick glance. This was so helpful! I’m about to throw in the towel ☹️ Totally feel like a failure, I tried so many different settings. It has an LCD screen for you to view and change the various settings. We respect everyone’s right to express their thoughts and opinions as long as they remain respectful of other community members, and meet What to Expect’s Terms of Use. Only have it as high as you need to get milk out. The only thing I found is the batteries die pretty quickly, so you have to change them out frequently! It does carry well in a regular backpack which I know isn’t very trendy but it works. There is generally less pain felt by these people when they tried the S2 instead of the Medela. Hi!

I called my insurance company (BCBS) and they gave me a list of websites to order through (medical supply companies). I’ve never pumped before and my baby is due in a few weeks and I really want to try to breastfeed/ pump as much as possible. The round design, with backlight face, easy to touch buttons, makes the Sonata one of the more user-friendly pumps I have ever tried. Glad I’m not the only one!! If higher price points aren’t an issue, I would recommend you try out the Medela Sonata. I just need you all to zoom in on Austin’s face. I’m definitely going to look into my insurance coverage for the Spectra because efficiency + quicker pump times is a major bonus for me! It wasn’t incredibly noticeable but definitely a change. Hi Lauren!

Your comparison is so helpful! There is a silicon insert made by Maymom that might solve the issue for you. Otherwise it’s the same as the S2. That will then last you up to three hours of use. 1 Natural Way helps moms get a breast pump, maternity wellness benefits and more through insurance. However, there’s a clear difference with the Spectra S2, as it has backflow valve due to its different technology from the Medela …

There are the one piece breastshields at 19mm but the Sonata is the two-piece design. According to Medela: Responsive Pump Technology (RPT) offers consistent pumping for her individual shape wherever she pumps, using sensors to detect changes in mom’s body (e.g., breast fullness) or in the environment (including elevation) which may impact normal vacuum pressure. Medela makes great pumps, but the Sonata is not a popular Pump model, so just based off of that I would opt for the Spectra. It is easy to use, very lightweight, comes with tons of accessories, and is backed by one of the best breast pump companies. That helps to enhance milk production. It’s lightweight, but doesn’t come with a battery adapter (the S1 Plus features an inbuilt battery). I definitely pump more milk with my Sonata than I do with the PISA. The MyMedela app allows you to tracks a number of things concerning your baby: I have really enjoyed using the MyMedela app with my Sonata. I’m a Medela turned Spectra mama!

. The Sonata is Medela’s first smart breast pump. That is slightly less than my Spectra S1, which I can get 4-5 sessions out of no problem. Just take apart the pieces and wash them up after each use. The models was to hard on my nipples. I like this because everyone’s body responds differently, so you can adjust accordingly.

On the other hand, the Medela Pump in Style has a traditional tubing system, making it inefficient in terms of cleaning and maintenance.

Hope that helps! For this review, I chose the Spectra S1 over the Spectra S2 because the S2 can only be used while plugged into a power source, while the S1 has the battery and can be used on the go. I know you sent me a message on the Facebook page and I replied to that, but let me also put that reply here to hopefully help any other moms wondering the same thing! When it comes to pregnancy and giving birth, you will occasionally be fortunate enough to…, Preemies or premature babies are the most delicate to take care of because of their…, The moment you decide to breastfeed your new baby, you are definitely going to feel…. Don’t Forget to Follow our Facebook Page for more great content and tips! I do feel the Sonata pumps more when the battery is low vs the Freestyle, however. So does the Sonata live up to all the hype? Super convenient! They are not in stores here. You can choose whether to single or double pump. […] with Medela, but I’ll still use the Spectra when I’ve run out of clean pumping attachments! This means it’s a high performance pump with great suction.

Similar to the Medela, once your milk starts flowing you can switch it over to save time! With a manual option, you rely on your effort to pump the milk. From what I’ve read, and what you’ve said here, it sounds like it has so many similar features.

Sometimes, you may even need to pump while your baby sleeps. With such, you can easily use it wherever you are without carrying the adapter with you as well. Total game changer! But the Spectra parts, left much to be desired. Ok I thought I was crazy when I would hear “words” from my PISA!

I don't have much experience with the other medela personally but I've watched a few reviews on both and think the s2 is the better option for me. I love both. Replacement parts can be found easily (no emergency overnight shipping). The Sonata is a double electric, single-user breast pump. The Sonata is a double electric, single-user breast pump. I have both and use one at work and one at home. That is slightly less than my, I got wiser after that and unhooked the tubing from the collection bottles BEFORE removing the breastshields from my, I have been able to pump slightly more than my, The only pump I feel it is neck and neck with in terms of output is my. The reason is you can store the pumped milk for later use.

amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; However, because of the backflow filter, you still need to clean the filter from time to time, but most people find this a minor con, anyway. Now that you’ve had the pump a while, how does the Sonata compare to the Spectra S1? Gone are the days of hearing my Medela Pump in Style speak phrases to me as I pumped (I can’t be the only one that heard them…). I prefer the medela, I have a low supply and I feel the spectacle does a better job of getting the milk out. The Spectra S1  pump was made for mothers who prefer to pump one breast at a time, but it came with a connector for those who preferred to pump both. Empties my breasts in no time and I love how quiet it is!! Each time I pump with my Sonata, I need to set my suction level and manually hit the letdown button since my milk lets down closer to the one minute mark. The rechargeable battery lasts about 3-4 pumping sessions without being charged. All three of these options are easy to clean and sterilize. Medela pumps are in just about every major store that sells baby items too – Target, Walmart, Buy Buy Baby, etc. Let’s dive in. You need to find the upgraded set to get things like a tote bag.
